Calvert House welcomes students & faculty at the University of Chicago to participate in educational programs, faith sharing, & prayer. Some groups focus on an intellectual understanding of the Catholic Church. Other groups focus on prayer, scripture & implementing our faith in our everyday lives. Whether you are looking to explore the Catholic tradition or deepen your life in Christ, there are groups available to satisfy many needs.
Each quarter, we have 2 weekly bible studies. This is a wonderful opportunity to grow in your understanding of the sacred scripture and and faith.
Other opportunities for Bible Study depend upon student interest and leadership. Please contact Laura LeCompte if you would like to participate in or lead a Bible Study group and staff will gladly help provide you with resources.
Are you looking for an opportunity to gather in fellowship with other Catholics like you and discuss day to day life issues? This is a great opportunity to share your thoughts and reflections with other and grow from the wisdom of your peers. Every quarter, Calvert House Staff will connect you with a faith sharing group and provide resources and space to meet and reflect.
Join us during the Fall Quarter at the Br. David Darst Center for Justice & Peace, Spirituality & Education. This is an opportunity to reach out in service throughout different areas of Chicago with your peers and spend time in prayer, reflection, and Christian Fellowship.
God's voice may often be difficult to discern. Spiritual directors can help people to understand and hear the active voice of God in their busy lives. Calvert House will connect University of Chicago students and contributing members of the Calvert House community with a Spiritual Director.
The Sedes Sapientiae Eucharistic Adoration Chapel, in memory of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, Servant of God, is located in the lower level of Calvert House. The unique monstrance was handcarved in Spain and is the only one of its kind in the world.
The Adoration Chapel is open from 8am to 8pm Monday through Friday.
Each Winter Quarter, the CSA and Calvert House sponsor this wonderful Off-Campus Retreat. This unique retreat is primarily planned by Calvert House student leaders. This fabulous weekend is full of faith, fun, and fellowship you will find no where else! You don’t want to miss this once-in-a-year opportunity!
Each year, Calvert House has 2 of these retreats- one in the fall quarter and one in the winter quarter. The retreat takes place at Calvert House Sunday-Thursday. You are given a retreat journal and reflection guide. Each day throughout the week you will spend 30 minutes in personal prayer and reflection and another 30 minutes with a spiritual companion.
